Bombay Punch

Type: Punch

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 litre BrandySpirit distilled from wine of grapes or other fruits e.g. see Apricot Brandy, Cherry Brandy or Blackberry Brandy. Normal non-flavoured brandy is smooth to taste and amber in colour.
  • 2 litres ChampagneFrench sparkling wine, usually produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.
    Substitute: Sparkling wine, if you're on a budget!
  • 6 msr Lemon JuiceFreshly squeezed lemon juice or the bottled lemon juice you can buy in the grocery store - up to you.
  • 3 msr MaraschinoClear liqueur made from crushed cherries.
  • 1 litre Mineral Water (Sparkling)Natural spring water that is lightly carbonated and found in bottles in the grocery store.
  • 1/2 litre Sherry (Sweet/Cream)Fortified wine made from grapes laid out in the sun to increase their sugar content. With sweet sherries, brandy or dule is added during fermentation to retain sweetness. Oloroso and Cream are examples of sweet sherries.
  • 5 msr Sugar SyrupMake your own sugar syrup by dissolving equal quantities of water and sugar before simmering gently for 2 minutes. Cool and store in a bottle or jug.
  • 3 msr Triple SecSweet, orange Curacao.
    Substitute: Cointreau if you're not worried about your cocktails being 100% authentic.


Method:

Mix all ingredients in a punch bowl with ice.
Cover and chill for a few hours.
Add sliced fruit of your choice to serve.

Serves: 40 people
