Best served in a champagne flute
Classic Champagne Cocktail
Type: Champagne Cocktail
- 2 dashes Angostura BittersFlavour enhancer made from herbs, spices and berries. Only a few dashes are added to cocktails so a bottle lasts a long time.
- 3 msr ChampagneFrench sparkling wine, usually produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.
Substitute: Sparkling wine, if you're on a budget!
- 1/3 msr CognacFrench brandy distilled from white wine and matured in oak casks - VSO means very superior old; VSOP means very superior old pale; VVSOP means very very superior old (really!); XO means extremely old. Substitute: Brandy.
- 1 Sugar CubeSugar in the form of a cube - rather than powdered.
Place sugar cube in a fluted champagne glass
Add Angostura, allowing it to soak in
Add remaining ingredients
Squeeze a lemon twist on top, discard
Garnish with 1/2 an orange slice
Note: Brandy can be substituted for Cognac
